Hello, my name is Candace Ell, LPCC, LCAC. I am the Co-Owner of the Trauma and Attachment Institute (TAI) and am excited for the opportunity to serve you through TAI.
I have been honored to be a counselor in the Bismarck/Mandan, ND area for the last 16 years, working in residential treatment settings, intensive outpatient programs, and—over the past four years—providing individual counseling in a private practice setting.
Educational Background
I earned my first bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from South Dakota State University in 2003. In 2009, I completed a second bachelor’s degree in Addiction Counseling, and in 2020, I earned my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Expertise and Focus: Supporting Clients Through Trauma
I have a special interest in treating trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use concerns, dual diagnoses (addiction and mental health disorders), relationship concerns, life transitions, and personality disorders. I provide counseling to individuals ages 13 and older.
My Approach to Therapy
My approach integrates mind, body, and spirit, tailoring interventions to each person’s goals and needs. I am trained in several modalities for treating trauma, including Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Attachment Interventions, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing into my work. I believe in the empowerment of all people and am driven to provide new skills, perspective, and hope for those experiencing mental health challenges.
