Karissa Kautzman, LPCC, LCAC

My name is Karissa Kautman and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor with specialized training in trauma and addiction. I also have a special interest in supporting parents of children with special needs.

As co-owner of the Trauma and Attachment Institute, my goal is to bring a warm, person-centered approach to therapy that emphasizes safety, acceptance, and empowerment with a goal to build resilience, self-understanding and restore connections to the self and others.

My Background & Experience

I began my counseling career in 2013 as an addiction counselor, working across various levels of care. My early experience laid a strong foundation for my transition into private practice, where I now help clients navigate complex concerns such as substance use, dual diagnosis, depression, anxiety, and the impact of adverse life events.

I completed my undergraduate degree at Minot State University and received my Master’s in counseling in 2022 from the University of Mary.

My Approach to Therapy

My therapeutic  approach is eclectic and individualized, drawing from evidence-based practices including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reporcessing (EMDR), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), body-based therapies including Somatic Experiencing and Polyvagal Theory, and other techniques individualized to the client.
